Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistible good looks and charm on ususpecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him.
What instantly attracted me to Lies Beneath was not only was it was in the POV of a male, but it was the POV of a mail mermaid (or merman)! How awesome is that??  Now after reading this book, I can honestly say that I loved Lies Beneath. The writing was well paced and quick, I loved every single character, even the evil mermaids and the story was intriguing and very original. There isn't one thing I didn't enjoy about Lies Beneath.

Calder and his sisters eat people to live, but unlike his sisters who enjoy capturing their prey and playing with them first, Calder wants to kill them quick so that his victims don't suffer. I really enjoyed Calder. Sure there were things about him I didn't like, but I loved watching him change and enjoyed learning about his back story, which was different from his sisters.

Ever since their mother died they have been looking for a man named Jason Hancock. Believing he is the reason behind their mother's death, the siblings have wanted nothing more then revenge. When they find him, things get a little complicated when Calder falls for Jason's daughter, Lily. This is when the story really gets good!

As far as love interests go, Lily was awesome. She was so honest and real and when she learned who Calder really was, she had the best reaction!

I am extremely interested to see where this story and the characters are going to go. Calder's family dynamic is completely different now, and I am looking forward to see how that ends up playing out in future books.

Well done Anne Greenwood Brown! I truly and utterly loved this book!!
