For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

I have had an ARC of The Selection on my bookshelf for months and I have no clue why I waited so long to read it. This book was amazing! I seriously loved everything about it. From the writing, to the plot, to the characters. The Selection was perfect and completely deserves the honor of becoming a TV show for The CW and I can not wait to be able to watch it in the fall.

America Singer is one of 35 girls competing to win Prince Maxon's heart. The difference between America and the other 34 girls is that she doesn't actually want to win. She loves Aspen, a servant she has been with for a few years now. But Aspen broke up with her, and she doesn't know how to move on.

American thinks Maxon is going to be a self-obsessed jerk, but he is anything but! He might be confident when it comes to being a Prince, but he is clueless when it comes to girls. He was sweet, caring and thoughtful and what started out as a friendship between America and Maxon turns into feelings. Things get even more complicated when Aspen comes back into the picture.

This is one love triangle that I can get behind! I loved both Maxon and Aspen. I know some people might not like Aspen, but I completely understood why he broke up with her, and why he thinks they can be together now. I have no idea what America is going to do, but I can't wait to find out.

I especially loved the world building in The Selection. I thought this was just going to be a bachelor type of book, but it was so much more.  I can not wait to find out about the wars, and the secrets that the King might be keeping. The writing was beautifully done and everything flowed so perfectly together. Also, that cover!! The colors scream at you and it looks beautiful in person.

I fully enjoyed this book. It was fun and quick and I am so looking forward to see what Cass has in store for us next!

  1. Goodreads in particular has had nothing but bad reviews for The Selection and while the cover is GORGEOUS and while the storyline doesn't sound like 'my kind of thing' but I'm glad to read some more positive reviews for this book. So great review!

  2. Yay! I'm so glad you loved it. Like Erin said, The Selection has been getting bad reviews on GR. But I'm happy to see you loved it, since I trust your reviews and our taste seem to be similar, I'll check this one out soon. Wonderful review!

  3. I really loved this book but I am definitely Team Maxon! Aspen broke America's heart too thoroughly for me to be able to trust him in the future.
