Book Blurb:

Natalie Shay never imagined a day like this would come. She did what she was supposed to do: graduate college and marry her handsome, popular college sweetheart. With the ink still drying on their divorce papers, Natalie tries to move on from an ending she thought would be happy. When she feels a spark with her stubborn, charming best friend Aidan Costa, Natalie's life becomes even more unrecognizable. Aidan has been her best friend for years, stood beside her when she got married, and has a notorious aversion to relationships. As confusion and denial overwhelm them, their spark grows. Held back by a secret he has been keeping his whole life, Aidan decides to ignore his feelings for Natalie. Natalie's discovery of his secret pushes them past the boundaries they've carefully constructed around their friendship. For Natalie, this could be a second chance at her happily ever after. But when a person from Aidan's past reappears, everything he has built with Natalie is threatened.

My Review:

Good on Paper is one of the stories that show two not so perfect people fall in love, but they both keep making mistakes when it comes to each other. Aiden and Natalie were super relatable because of this. I feel like one of the problems in romance novels is that the characters are just two perfect, and I loved how these two were clearly not!

Natalie and Aiden dealt with lots of curves in the road before they could reach their happily ever after but I loved how despite everything they fought for each other. I would definitely call this a slow burn romance, but it is a quick read. I love the Aiden was a teacher too since I’m a high school history teacher!

If you’re looking for a rainy day read, Good on Paper is perfect for you!

Review: Slashes in the Snow by M. Never

Synopsis:

𝐊𝐲

Three years ago my father walked away. Away from our MC, all his responsibilities, and me. We haven’t spoken since the day he handed me the keys to the kingdom.

Shoved them down my throat was more like it.

I hate him, and the new family he’s playing house with. He left his entire life behind for a woman he barely knows. But I’m strong, resilient, and don’t need a damn soul to survive.

At least, that’s what I thought...until she walked into my bar.

𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐚

Someone is watching me. I can feel it. I wake up in the middle of the night freaked out of my mind, paranoid a stranger is there. My skin prickles every time I leave my house, because I know someone is following me.

I’m afraid. Alone. And there’s only one person left to turn to.

The stepbrother I never met. The man my stepfather speaks so highly about, but never sees. He’s the president of a notorious motorcycle club, and exactly the kind of person I need to protect me.

Little did I know, Ky Parish, freakin’ hates my guts.

***Slashes in the Snow is a romantic suspense (emphasis on romance) with dark elements. Reader discretion is advised.

My Review:

After reading the prequel story, Snowfall, I was super excited to read the full-length novel featuring Kira and Ky. While I realized I am not a huge fan of motorcycle club romances, I still fully enjoyed Kira and Ky’s story.

Kira and Ky are stepsiblings for the last two years, but have never met. When Kira’s mom married Ky’s dad, his dad left his club and Ky has wanted nothing to do with him since. But Kira needs help and Ky feels a need to help her.

I really loved the romance in the story. Ky and Kira were super hot together! I also enjoyed the mystery aspect and the last 50 pages just completely flew through! I needed to know what was going to happen!

Overall, this was a good romance and a quick read. I’ve read other stories from this author, so Slashes in the Snow definitely will not be my last from her!

Review: The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

Title: The Bride Test
Author: Helen Hoang
Series: The Kiss Quotient # 2
Rating: 5 stars!
Publisher: Berkley
Date Published: May 7, 2019

Summary:

Khai Diep has no feelings. Well, he feels irritation when people move his things or contentment when ledgers balance down to the penny, but not big, important emotions—like grief. And love. He thinks he’s defective. His family knows better—that his autism means he just processes emotions differently. When he steadfastly avoids relationships, his mother takes matters into her own hands and returns to Vietnam to find him the perfect bride.

As a mixed-race girl living in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City, Esme Tran has always felt out of place. When the opportunity arises to come to America and meet a potential husband, she can’t turn it down, thinking this could be the break her family needs. Seducing Khai, however, doesn’t go as planned. Esme’s lessons in love seem to be working…but only on herself. She’s hopelessly smitten with a man who’s convinced he can never return her affection.

With Esme’s time in the United States dwindling, Khai is forced to understand he’s been wrong all along. And there’s more than one way to love.

My Review:

I really loved last years The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang, so I was super excited when I was able to receive a copy of the follow up, The Bride Test. This story follows Khai, an autistic man who doesn’t do love or relationships and Esme, a Vietnamese women who wants a better life for her and her daughter. I loved these two so much! Since the second they met, their connection jumped off the pages.

The story had so many laugh out loud moments, but also had a lot of heart and emotion. It literally had everything I could want in a story. The ending had me stupid smiling, even hours after I had finished it. The beginning was a little slow, but after about 25%, the rest just flew by! I needed to know how Esme and Khai’s story was going to play out.

I also loved how Khai’s autism was portrayed and how his family, especially his brother handled it. I loved Khai and Quan’s relationship. I loved no matter what they were there for each other. I really enjoyed seeing Michael and Stella again (The main characters from The Kiss Quotient) too!
My favorite scene is a scene between Khai, Quan and Michael. Even thinking about it makes me laugh again!

Esme was also a wonderful character. I loved how motivated and determined she was. I loved watching her grow into a confident women and seeing her stick up for herself!

Overall, Hoang has done it again with her sophomore novel! I cannot wait to see what other amazing stories this hugely talented lady comes up with!

Thank you Berkley Romance for sending me an advanced review copy!
